It was a cold weekend at SSR for camping but not enough to keep the scouts from T931 away. Even though Friday night was as low as -15f, everyone stayed warm. Three scouts working on Camping merit badge even stayed in a tent Saturday night. The boys basically had a fun weekend working on or doing what ever they wanted to. Some chose to hike around camp doing orienteering whiles took advantage of the snow and did some sledding. The troop utilized the new 12 inch Dutch ovens to make dinner, Beef Stew. Very tasty! The Patrol Leaders conducted pack inspections for the camp out. The scouts also readied troop gear so that it would be ready Friday night. This included inspecting a couple of tents as some of the scouts where going to be spending a night in one for camping mb. Patrols also used time for skills.
The meeting was more preparation for the upcoming troop camp out this month. We are really working hard at improving the skills of the troop in the area of menu planning and organization. This also includes clean up and cooking. Patrols also worked on skills this night as well.
Another busy night for the troop. Gear had to be unloaded, cleaned and put away tonight. After the Klondike, we left the troop gear with Mr. Burke till tonight's meeting. The patrol box was re-outfitted with gear. The scouts discovered that they were lacking some essential items on the camp out. Everything that needed a good scrubbing was scrubbed and gear out away properly. Discussion about having two troop Quartermasters took place and it was decided on with the SPL that we would have two. AJ was asked and agreed on taking the role as the second QM.
It was also decided that the scouts need some skill enhancement in the area of menu planning and food prep. For the next camp out this month, the adult leadership will take a very active role in working side by side with the scouts to help them gain knowledge and skill in this area. |
