Our meeting tonight brought us two new members from Pack 185. Both boys joined making our official number "5". We are off to a small but confident start. Tonight the Troop learned more about hiking preparations and the type of pack used for day hikes and the gear needed for a day hike. The scouts also tested their sense of smell tonight in a fun activity. It was a busy and fun night. More about the patrol concept was explained in preparation for a patrol leader election and the forming of the troops first official patrol.

Our first "official" meeting for Troop 931 took place on April 18th, 2013 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in North Tonawanda, NY. We had five boys in attendance. 3 scouts from Pack 193 who signed up and 2 from Pack 185 who have yet to sign up. We discussed an upcoming hike planned for May on Grand Island that will cover about 10 miles going from Beaver Island State Park, along the west river to Buckhorn Island State Park. We covered topics such as trail food, each boy making his own, and the importance of staying hydrated(showed different types of water bottles). Also, reviewed the Scout Oath and Law. closed the evening talking about the patrol method and how a patrol and a troop operate.
Gave parents general info about troop concerning areas of uniforms, fees and expectations of scouts, leaders and parents. Over all the meeting was a success and the boys seemed excited about doing things. Will be attending cross over ceremony on the 20th for P185 and with luck have some new recruits! Next meeting scheduled for following Thursday. |
