This weekend almost the entire troop went to 9 Mile Island by canoe. Putting in at West Canal County Park and moving five miles down the canal by canoe and kayak was a lot of work for most of the scouts. They carried with them all of their gear for the over night camping. 9 Mile was a nice camp but a little on the buggy side. Scouts did everything from run around having fun to working on fire building skills. It was a very good learning experience for all involved. Sunday morning was a race against the weather to paddle the 5 miles home to avoid the rain.
The troop spent part of the morning helping out the Knights of Columbus with some clean up outside of the building. We only had four scouts show up but they got everything done little time.
Part two of our swim nights was tonight. We finished up working on the swimming requirements from second and first class. We even had time to do some free time swimming. Everyone did very well at the skills.
We swam at Byblos on Grand Island tonight, working on the BSA swim test for those that need it and for the scouts in general to get in the pool and get some exercise. Overall it was good attendance and we were joined by Troop 184 who just happened to be at the pool as well.
